Dr. Matt Maxwell, Superintendent | Lemont High School

For the second consecutive year, Lemont High School students set nine new school records in Advanced Placement (AP) exam performance during the spring 2025 testing period. Eight of these records had been established just a year prior.

The AP Program, run by the College Board, allows high school students to take college-level courses and potentially earn college credit or advanced placement based on their exam results. The College Board offers more than 30 AP exams in various subjects and recognizes students at different achievement levels based on their cumulative AP performance.

In 2025, Lemont students set new school records in several categories: a total of 1,044 AP exams were taken (previous record: 984 in 2024), and 884 exams were passed (previous record: 753 in 2024). The passing rate reached 84.7 percent, up from the previous best of 76.5 percent set in 2024. A total of 561 students took at least one AP exam, surpassing the previous high of 518 set in 2022. Of those, 489 students passed at least one exam, and 87.2 percent of AP students passed at least one test, both new records. The number of students earning recognition from the College Board rose to 212, and there were increases in students earning AP Scholar with Distinction (84 students) and AP Scholar with Honor (43 students).

Lemont High School nearly set another record with 85 students earning AP Scholar accolades, just below the previous year’s total of 87.

The highest subject pass rates—defined as scoring a three or higher—were seen in AP English Language & Composition (95.4 percent), AP U.S. Government & Politics (94.8 percent), AP Computer Science A (93.3 percent), AP English Literature & Composition (92.9 percent), and AP Statistics (92.9 percent). The school achieved pass rates of at least 85 percent in 13 out of the 20 exams offered in 2025, and seven exams had pass rates above 90 percent.

Currently, Lemont High School offers a selection of 21 AP courses across disciplines such as sciences, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, arts, and languages.

The College Board recognized 84 Lemont students—including graduates, current seniors, and juniors—as AP Scholars with Distinction for averaging at least a score of 3.5 on all exams taken and scoring three or higher on five or more exams. A full list of recipients was provided by the school.

Forty-three students qualified as AP Scholars with Honor by averaging at least a score of 3.25 on all exams taken and scoring three or higher on four or more exams.

Eighty-five students earned the standard AP Scholar Award by completing three or more exams with scores of three or higher.

The College Board discontinued its National AP Scholar award after the 2019-20 academic year, but Lemont had previously set a record with eight such honorees in that final year.
