Joey Scott, Golfer | Lemont High School

Lemont High School senior Joey Scott has become the second golfer in the school's history to compete in four state finals events for the boys’ golf program. Scott finished tied for 22nd at the 2025 IHSA Class 2A Boys’ Golf State Finals, held at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University on October 10-11. He joins Raymond Sullivan, class of 2018, as the only other player from Lemont to achieve this milestone.

Scott began the state finals with a score of +7 (78) in the first round and improved to +2 (73) in the final round, ending with a total of +9 (151). This result was just four strokes short of his best previous performance over 36 holes at state finals.

To qualify for state, Scott tied for fifth place and earned all-sectional honors with a +3 (73) at the De La Salle Sectional at White Pines Golf Club in Bensenville. Under head coach Justin Weidler, Lemont’s team placed seventh overall with a score of 317. Scott was among the top ten individual golfers from teams that did not advance as a group to state finals.

Earlier in the season, Lemont won its 13th IHSA Regional title by scoring 299 at Inwood Golf Course during the Joliet Catholic Regional. Scott led as medalist with a -5 (66).

Lemont also secured its 20th consecutive South Suburban Conference title and its 22nd straight conference championship overall after sweeping the top five spots at the SSC Blue Meet. Sophomore Nathan Zdenovic was named individual medalist and SSC champion. Other top finishers included Scott (2nd), senior Chase Magolan (3rd), sophomore Niko Giannakopoulos (4th), and senior Dillon Bingen (5th), all earning all-conference recognition.

Scott is notable as the only golfer from Lemont’s program to receive multiple all-state honors during his career. He previously tied for ninth place at the 2023 IHSA Class 2A State Finals and seventh place in 2024.

The school’s first team appearance at state finals was in 2005. Since then, Lemont has qualified for state numerous times, including consecutive years from 2007-2011, annually from 2014-2017, and each year from 2021-2024. The team earned third place in state competition in 2011 and second place in 2023.

Other Lemont golfers who have medaled at state finals include Sullivan (tied-12th, 2015), Dave Lucheon (‘77; tied-7th, 1976), Tom Lynn (‘07; tied-8th, 2005), Paulius Malcius (‘22; fifth, 2019), Shane Purtle (‘12; tied-3rd, 2011), and Eddie Scott (‘24; tied-7th, 2023).

Lemont Township High School serves grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of approximately 1,378 students during the 2019–2020 school year. The student body is predominantly white but includes Hispanic, Asian, and black students according to demographic data from that period.
