Lemont High School freshman Sarah Scott made history by becoming the school’s first girls’ golf all-state performer. Scott finished sixth at the 2025 IHSA Class 2A Girls’ Golf State Finals, held on October 10-11 at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur. She is only the second freshman in Lemont’s program to compete at the state finals and was the highest-placing freshman across both Class 1A and 2A competitions.

Scott started strong, tying for tenth after her first round with a score of +3 (75). On the final day, she tied for the third-best round, shooting a -2 (70). Over two days, she collected six birdies and posted seven bogeys across 36 holes, finishing with a +1 total of 145. Both her rounds of 75 and 70 are now the best scores recorded by a Lemont girls’ golfer at state finals.

Scott became the first player from head coach Bill Mondrella’s team to qualify for state since 2018 after tying for fourth place with a +3 (75) at the IHSA Lockport Sectional at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport. At this event, she was also the top individual among those whose teams did not advance to state.

Earlier, Scott tied for third with a +5 (75) at the IHSA Hinsdale South Sectional at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien, where Lemont placed sixth as a team with a score of 374. She also won medalist honors at the 2025 South Suburban Conference Golf Meet, contributing to Lemont’s team title.

Scott joins four other players from Lemont High School who have reached state finals: Emily Lejman (2011), Bridget Lynn (2012, 2013), Maggie Micetich (2015, 2018), and Chantelle Mika (1997). Prior to Scott's performance, Mika held the best finish with a thirteenth-place showing in 1997.

Lemont Township High School serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 1,378 students during the 2019-2020 school year. The student body included approximately one quarter each in grades nine through twelve according to Illinois Report Card data (source). In that year, about 25 percent of students were freshmen like Scott (source). The school population was predominantly white, with smaller percentages of Hispanic, Asian, and black students (source).
