The Lithuanian Foundation recently invited its members and supporters to the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture for an evening dedicated to exploring the exhibition "beLONGING: Lithuanian Artists in Chicago, 1900 to Now." This event took place on November 2, 2024, as part of the Art Design Chicago series by the Terra Foundation for American Art. The series aims to connect Chicago's cultural communities and highlight the city's artistic heritage.

The evening commenced in the Amber Room of the museum, where Juozas Kapačinskas, Chairman of the LF Board of Directors, and Audronė Pavilčius Karalius, President of the Lithuanian Foundation, welcomed attendees. Remarks were also given by Regimantas Jablonskas, Consul General of Lithuania in Chicago, and Edita Buzėnienė, newly elected President of the Lithuanian American Community.

Ieva Dilytė, a member of the LF Board of Directors and hostess for the evening, introduced Sigita Balzekas, President of the Balzekas Museum. Ms. Balzekas expressed her gratitude towards those interested in the event and thanked the Lithuanian Foundation for supporting the exhibition.

The exhibition is hosted on the museum’s third floor and features over 100 works by 30 artists from different immigration waves to Chicago. Curated by art historian Victoria Kasuba Matranga, it explores themes such as immigrant status and self-discovery through various art forms like painting and sculpture. Guests could also view video interviews and documents related to these artists.

A silent auction was held during the event where Joan Kuras from Canada acquired a piece by Monika Plioplytė. The evening concluded with music from pianist Anju Chandy while guests enjoyed refreshments provided by Kunigaikščiai Restaurant.

The Lithuanian Foundation extended its thanks to all involved in organizing this exhibition that offered insights into Lithuanian artists' contributions in Chicago.

Founded in 1966, the Balzekas Museum promotes Lithuanian culture and history through exhibitions and genealogical research at its location on South Pulaski Road in Chicago.
