Ten-year Lemont High School District 210 Board of Education member Renée Koehler has resigned from her position. Koehler, who was first elected in 2015 and secured a third four-year term in 2023, is stepping down before the end of her current term.

“On behalf of board members both past and present who have had the privilege of serving with her, I would like to express sincere gratitude to Renée for the commitment she has shown to the Lemont High School community,” said District 210 Board of Education President Kurt Korte.

“We have been fortunate to collaborate so closely with someone with her passion and attention to detail. Renée always brings a key voice to board discussions, and not only worked well with former superintendent Dr. Mary Ticknor, but is proud to have been part of the Board’s selection of our new superintendent, Dr. Matt Maxwell. We will miss her presence on the Board, but the impact she made during her tenure will extend far beyond the 10-plus years she served.”

The Board has announced it will follow established procedures for filling Koehler's seat for the remainder of her term. The next four-year term for this position will be available in spring 2027.

In compliance with state law, the district reported the vacancy to the South Cook Intermediate Service Center. The Board now has 60 days to appoint a replacement according to its policy on filling vacancies.

Materials from interested candidates are being accepted until Tuesday, September 30. Applicants must meet several requirements: U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years old, residency in Illinois and within the school district for at least one year before the most recent election, and voter registration status.

Those considering applying are encouraged by district officials to review guidance documents provided by the Illinois Association of School Boards regarding expectations and code of conduct for board members.

Applicants should submit a résumé and letter of interest addressed to Executive Assistant Carolyn Stelter by September 30 via mail (Lemont High School, 800 Porter Street), fax ((630) 257-7603), or email (cstelter@lhs210.net).

Koehler’s family includes three sons—all alumni of Lemont High School—Jake (Class of 2017), Justin (Class of 2018), and Ryan (Class of 2023). Before joining District 210’s Board in an elected capacity, she served on the Lemont High School Educational Foundation’s Board.
