Today marks the first day of Dr. Matt Maxwell's tenure as Superintendent at Lemont High School, a position he approaches with enthusiasm and anticipation. Dr. Maxwell, a native of Tinley Park in the south suburbs, expressed his admiration for Lemont High School and considers it an honor to contribute to its legacy.
Dr. Maxwell has spent several months preparing for this role by working closely with outgoing Superintendent Dr. Mary Ticknor on transition activities. He has also engaged with school administrators, faculty, and staff to familiarize himself with the school's operations. "The more I have learned about Lemont High School, the more impressed I have been with what the students, faculty and staff, and community have built here over time," he stated.
Acknowledging that today is just the beginning of many "firsts" in his new role, Dr. Maxwell looks forward to engaging in various school activities and events, including meeting with faculty and staff, attending student competitions, and making weather-related decisions.
Lemont High School boasts a strong reputation both locally and nationally due to its tradition of excellence in academics and extracurricular activities. Dr. Maxwell noted the stability within District 210 as a key factor in this success: "I am just the fourth District 210 superintendent since 1990." He also highlighted that every member of the District 210 Board of Education has been associated with the school for at least ten years.
Dr. Maxwell plans to leverage this institutional knowledge while learning from experienced administrators and observing teachers in their classrooms. He praised the efforts of support staff across various departments for their significant impact on students' daily experiences.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity given by the District 210 Board of Education, Dr. Maxwell looks forward to connecting with parents, guardians, and community members who support Lemont High School's mission: "More than any other factor, Lemont High School’s reputation as an exemplary high school is the result of talented students committing themselves to become lifelong learners."
Dr. Maxwell's family is equally excited about joining the Lemont High School community: "My wife, Liz, and our four kids are excited to be dressed in blue and gold." As he begins his journey at Lemont High School, Dr. Maxwell concluded with a sense of belonging: "Even though it’s just my first day, I already know this…We are Lemont!"
