For the second consecutive year and the fourth time overall, Lemont High School students achieved success by securing three medals at the Illinois Design Educators Association (IDEA) State Competition. The 2025 event took place at Illinois State University on April 12. Junior Mirella Miazga was named the state runner-up in the Architectural Board category, while senior Rowyn Page in the same category and junior Hubert Bydlon in the Introductory Board category both secured third place in their respective events.
Mirella Miazga joined Matt Lassak from the class of 2016 as one of the few Lemont students to earn multiple state medals, and she became the first student in school history to achieve two state runner-up finishes. Miazga previously earned the state runner-up title in the Introductory Board category in 2024.
All three students—Bydlon, Miazga, and Page—qualified for the state by excelling in regional competition. Miazga's first-place finish in Architectural Board extended Lemont's regional winning streak in this category to 12 years, a run that began in 2014. She became only the second Lemont student, after Jacob Wilk from the class of 2018, to win multiple regional titles. Page was the regional runner-up in Architectural Board, while Bydlon triumphed in the Introductory Board category. Students finishing in the top two in individual regional competitions qualify for the state finals, as do first-place winners in team events.
The state medalists have been consistent over the years, with various Lemont students receiving recognition. This includes Sean Armbruster (2009) and Dan Garczek (2016) in 3D Architectural CAD Modeling, Jasmine Hornik (2015), Matt Lassak (2015 and 2016), and others in Architectural Board, as well as other categories like Assembly Modeling and Engineering Design.
Since 2008, Lemont, guided by teacher Scott Duensing, has consistently had at least one qualifier for the IDEA state finals in 17 out of 18 years. They have achieved multiple state medals on six occasions, with a high of three medals in 2015, 2021, 2024, and 2025. The school also qualified a record five entries for the state finals in 2020, though that event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and another five entries in 2024.
