Lemont High School's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter achieved notable success at the Central Northern Area Conference regional event held at Joliet Junior College in December. The chapter placed among the top four in 18 events, securing the opportunity to compete at the 2025 FBLA State Leadership Conference scheduled for March 28-29 in Springfield.
Lemont students excelled, winning first place in six team competitions and six individual events. Among the team winners were seniors Sofia Kuziel, Anisha Oberai, and Charlotte Putt in Website Design; juniors Olivia Sarno and Addyson Wolfe in Business Ethics; sophomores Aras Gedgaudas and Gabriel Zarycki in Broadcast Journalism; sophomores Luke Auskalnis, Ian Koestner, and Brandon Potaczek in Hospitality and Event Management; freshmen Daniel Khan and Will Sagotz in Entrepreneurship; and freshmen John Perry and Alex Tchernev in Introduction to Programming.
Individual victories included seniors Matthew Bechtlofft (Graphic Design) and Karolina Gmiterek (Job Interview); juniors Joey Fiore (Business Plan) and Nina Risatti (Business Communications); sophomore Jonas Kimantas (Introduction to Marketing Concepts); and freshman Medha Vicharapu (Introduction to Public Speaking).
Other notable performances included second-place finishes by seniors Aditya Oberai, Vikram Oberai, and Aidan Potaczek in Coding & Programming. Junior Eamon Salmon with sophomore Eli Zogby were runners-up in Public Service Announcement, while senior Amad Yaagoub secured second place in Financial Statement Analysis. Seniors Ali Nabulsi and Lavya Suri finished third in Sales Presentation. Junior Lorelai Dimitropoulos placed fourth in Public Policy and Advocacy, with freshman Tomas Taujanskas also achieving fourth place in Introduction to Financial Math.
The Lemont FBLA chapter has a strong history of success, having won at least one state title event in 10 out of 14 competitions from 2010 to 2024. The chapter achieved multiple championships eight times during this period, including a record five state titles both in 2011 and 2016. Notable alumni include Martynas Juskelis '18, Anna Mietus '19, Alex Paulius '18 with three state titles each; Spenser Bailey '16, Danny Banas '11, Krystian Paszek '11 with two titles each. Aditya and Vikram Oberai were part of a team that won one of Lemont's three state titles last year.
The FBLA is recognized as the largest business career student organization globally with over 200,000 students participating worldwide through its high school division.
