Lemont High School's Hannah Farley has made a significant mark in the school's cross country history. At the 2024 IHSA Class 2A Girls’ Cross Country State Finals held on November 9 at Detweiller Park, Peoria, Farley finished 13th. This achievement earned her all-state honors, making her only the second freshman from Lemont to receive such recognition. The team finished 19th overall.
Farley's performance was notable with a personal best time of 17:26.66 over the three-mile course, which stands as the second-fastest in Lemont's history. The school record is held by Kaylie Politza who clocked 17:22.80 in 2019.
Other team members included senior Niki Tselios (87th), junior Cassie Cunningham (143rd), freshman Amelia Sinnett (158th), and junior Maya Fedko (184th). Freshman Lizzy Rupsis and sophomore Nell Fedko also participated.
The girls' team secured their spot at state by finishing seventh at the IHSA Metamora Sectional on November 2, where Farley placed fourth individually. They had previously placed fifth at the IHSA Morris Sectional on October 26.
Under head coach Tim Plotke, Lemont won its 17th South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title this season. Farley was crowned SSC Champion with teammates Cunningham, Maya Fedko, and Sinnett also earning all-conference honors.
This marks Lemont's second consecutive appearance at the state finals and their 14th overall since their first in 1991. Their best finish was fourth place in 2014.
In boys' cross country, sophomore Gavin Abad debuted at state finals placing 130th with a personal best of 15:59.60. Abad advanced after finishing sixth at the IHSA Morris Regional and then placing 28th at the Metamora Sectional.
Lemont’s boys’ team under head coach John Kennedy Jr., won their fourth SSC Blue title in five seasons this fall with several athletes earning all-conference accolades.
