The Illinois State Board of Education has released the 2023-2024 school report card, and Old Quarry Middle School has achieved an "Exemplary" rating for the second year in a row. This distinction is awarded to schools within the top 10 percent statewide, with Old Quarry ranking in the top 3.2% of all elementary and middle schools.
The rating system evaluates various factors including performance on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), which tests students in grades 3-8 on English Language Arts and mathematics. The overall designation considers academic achievement and growth, absenteeism, and climate survey results.
Principal Joe Sweeney expressed pride in the school's accomplishments: “This achievement continues to echo that we have the three key ingredients for a successful school: supportive parents, a ‘whatever it takes’ mentality from our teachers, and amazing students. Our Exemplary rating for the second consecutive year reflects the dedication of our entire school community.”
In contrast, Oakwood, River Valley, and Central schools received a "Commendable" rating, which is the state's second-highest designation.
Superintendent Dr. Courtney Orzel also commented on Old Quarry's success: “We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments at Old Quarry Middle School, earning an 'Exemplary' rating for the second year in a row. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and community. The commitment to excellence is a testament to our collaborative efforts as a district. Together, we’re not just meeting standards—we’re setting them - and we are extremely proud of all of our students and staff in SD113A.”
