The Lemont-Bromberek Combined School District 113A Board of Education has been honored by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for their governance practices. SD113A is among 46 school districts in Illinois to receive the School Board Governance Recognition award, highlighting their commitment to effective leadership.

The IASB’s program recognizes local boards that adhere to its Foundational Principles of Effective Governance. Superintendent Dr. Courtney Orzel remarked, “This recognition really shows that our Board of Education continues to go above and beyond in their dedication to their role.” She emphasized the board's initiatives, such as the strategic plan "Our Purpose. Our Plan," and praised their focus on community interests.

The board's application included achievements in strategic planning, process building, communication enhancement, and policy updates. They emphasized a data-driven approach in monitoring district goals.

The Governance Recognition program showcases how good governance positively affects students and the district community. It allows districts to highlight programs improving local outcomes and underscores continuous learning among board members.

Board President Damon Ascolani stated, “As a board, we strive to oversee the operations of the district in a clear, transparent, and efficient manner so that the headlines are all about the kids and their accomplishments." He stressed their responsibility to the community and commitment to governance skills.

The IASB is an organization of local education boards aimed at strengthening public schools through local control. It operates as a private not-for-profit corporation under The Illinois School Code.
