For the first time since 2016, Lemont High School will be represented at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival's main event. Junior Julia Macari has been selected to join the cast of the 2025 All-State Production, "The Prom."
The festival is scheduled from January 9-11 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The All-State Production will feature five performances over three days, attracting an audience of more than 3,000 theater students statewide.
Macari will portray Angie, one of eight lead roles in "The Prom." She was chosen from over 300 students who auditioned for a spot in the cast, which includes just 40 members. The production is directed by Danny Yuska from Hinsdale South High School and produced by Britnee Kenyon from Deerfield High School and J.R. Willard-Rose from Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
Macari's involvement follows her participation in Lemont's rendition of "The Carol Burnett Show," showcased at the 2024 Illinois High School Theatre Festival.
She becomes the first Lemont student in nearly ten years to participate in an All-State Production. Previous participants include Emily Lyons ('10), Kevin Goffard ('11), Aubree Tally ('13), Kevin Driscoll ('12), and Kevin Troy ('16).
The All-State Production is a highlight of the 49th Annual Illinois High School Theatre Festival, known as the largest event of its kind in the U.S. It assembles students and staff from across Illinois to form a company that produces a full-scale show with limited rehearsals.
The festival is organized by the Illinois Theatre Association, representing theater interests throughout Illinois.
